Different universes. Different worlds. More importantly, different Sonic the Hedgehogs. Sonic had encountered many during his adventures during the battle against Robo-Robotnik, but he had no idea how many Sonic the Hedgehogs there truly are. One Sonic the Hedgehog is evil. In his universe, Robotnik is a kind doctor, helping the woodland animals in their war against the Freedom Fighters. You see, in the parallel universe, the Freedom Fighters fight against freedom. This is why the evil Sonic invented the Mechanizer. "It's a success," said Rotor, looking up from the machine. "I sent out those Mecha-Warriors you told me to. They brought back Robotnik and stuck him in a prison cell." "Excellent!" laughed Sonic. "That fool is the key to conquering this universe." "Why?" asked Tails, glancing up from his chain saw. "Well, bro, without a leader, those stupid little furry animals in the forest are lost. I assure you that my Mecha-Warriors have devastated the Great Forest. All that remains is for my SWAT-Bots to march into the forest and capture any survivors." "Can I keep some trees so I can chop 'em down?" asked Tails anxiously. "I think I've got my chainsaw working again. Evil-Sonic grinned. "Little buddy, you can even go with the Mecha-Warriors." The Sonic the Hedgehog marched off to mechanize Robotnik. *** "Unnh!" grunted Nack, as he slammed against the tree. "Watch it, hedgehog!" Sonic the Hedgehog frowned. This was not a Sonic of another universe; it was the hedgehog that we know so well. "What do you think you're doing, Nack?" "Trying to steal the island's Chaos Emerald," said Nack casually. "What else?" Sonic knew Nack was lying. Nack knew his way around the island, and he had headed in the opposite direction of the Chaos Emerald. He rammed his left fist into his right hand, and took another step forward. "If you want to do it the hard way, Nack...." Nack turned a pale violet. "Okay! Okay! I'll do it the easy way!" "Good," said Sonic. He hated intimidating people, even jerks, but it was necessary. "What are you doing on the Floating Island." "I'm..." Nack grinned. "Gassing you!" Nack pulled out a gas grenade and flung it to the ground before Sonic could stop him. "Hey!" cried Sonic in surprise. Nack laughed, and put on a gas mask. "See, ya, hedgehog!" laughed Nack. "You're just too slow for Nack the Weasel!" "You're just too stupid for Knuckles the Echidna!" yelled a voice. "Uh-oh," groaned Nack. Knuckles dived low, tackling Nack. The two tumbled to the ground. "Let go of me!" yelled Nack, swinging his fists wildly. It was more luck than anything, but one of Nack's wild swings caught Knuckles in the jaw. The echidna grunted, and rolled backwards. Nack dashed for his ion-powered jet ski and leapt in. "See you, echinerd!" laughed Nack. Sonic staggered out of the dense gas cloud coughing. "Oh, great, Knuckles, you let him get away," he grunted. Knuckles leapt to his feet. "Me?! Who lost him in the first place?" "Antione, actually." Knuckles shook his head. "You Freedom Fighters are so incompetent." "At least we've managed to catch him before!" yelled Sonic. "You're think you're so high and mighty just 'cause you guard some stupid Chaos Emerald!" "Mightier than you, pal!" Knuckles said, taking a step forward. Sonic laughed. "Give it a rest, loser!" "You seem to be asking for a fight," growled Knuckles. "What if I am?" "Then I'll have kick your butt," threatened Knuckles. Sonic drew a line in the sand. "You want to fight, you cross the line. You don't want to get the whipping of your life, you stay where you are." Knuckles thought for a moment. "I think I'll... fight!" Knuckles swung his fist across the line, knocking Sonic back. Sonic did a back-flip and landed on his feet. "Take this!" he yelled barreling forwards. He rolled once, then executed a flying kick the sent Knuckles reeling. Sonic leapt forward to attack again, but suddenly stopped as his wrist communicator beeped. Sally had insisted he bring it with him when had had gone after Nack. "Sal?" asked Sonic. "Sonic, did you catch him yet?" asked Sally. "Um, no, not exactly." Knuckles shook his head, then, screaming an ancient echidna war call, charged forwards. "What's that?!" asked Sally. "Er, um, it's... interference!" said Sonic nervously. Sally had given him a direct order not to fight with Knuckles. Sonic dodged a vicious left hook. "Sonic, you're fighting with Knuckles, aren't you?" Sonic blocked a uppercut that would have knocked his teeth out his nose. "Not exactly," he said. "I'm just blocking." "Just get back here with the weasel, okay?" asked Sally tiredly. She sounded like something was seriously wrong. "Okay, Sal," said Sonic. He switched off the communicator, then charged forwards. "Have a Knuckles sandwich!" yelled Knuckles, swinging his fist again. It glanced Sonic, who turned, but did not fall. "Have the dirt from my shoes!" yelled Sonic, who lashed out with his foot. Hours later, Robotnik frowned at Snively's report. "We're being watched?" he asked. They were standing in the control center. Robotnik had programmed his computers. All he needed to do to create a new robot with the Mechanizer was press a button (after entering passwords, of course). The Mecha-Warrior created would be moved through a secret tunnel to the control center, where it would appear it came from a roboticizer. The Freedom Fighters could not just blow it up, as they had with Robotnik's weapons in the past. But this report from Snively was troubling. How long had they been watched? Did the spy (if it was a spy) know about the Mechanizer? Robotnik shook his head. "Snively," he said. "We're going to have to go on a fact finding mission." *** "Hey," said Evil-Sally. "Why isn't that new roboticized Robotnik creep of yours out helping the other Mecha-Warriors?" The evil Sonic the Hedgehog shrugged. "I sent him on a trip to the Cosmic Highway. I want to see how he handles my goody-goody twin." Sally nodded. "That should be fun." Sonic grinned. "He's taken care of fifty-six universes already. Soon, I'll be the only Sonic the Hedgehog!" *** The fifty-seventh parallel universe was not about to be conquered so easily. It was the home of the Sonic the Hedgehog that had been given cyborg parts... and this Sonic now went by the title, "Cyborg Sonic," or "CySonic," for short. "Die!" snarled CySally, as she slammed against the massive frame of the new Mecha-Warrior. It grunted, and turned. "You cannot defeat me," rumbled the monster robot. "I have a nifty little treat for you!" CySonic gasped in horror. He had damaged his robotic leg, and could no longer walk. His self-repair systems were working as fast as it could, but he doubted his leg would be repaired in time to save CySally. "CySally! Run!" yelled the hedgehog, desperately willing his robotic half to work faster. The Mecha-Warrior turned and fired it's arm cannon. CySally shrieked. CySonic the Hedgehog closed his eyes. She had been the only cyborg Freedom Fighter to survive the onslaught of Robo-Robotnik. Now, a new Robo-Robotnik had emerged from a parallel dimension, and it was apparently going to finally conquer this world. Suddenly, the cannon stopped. CySally crumpled to the ground. CySonic gasped at what he saw. His leg finished the self-repair, and he tore off towards the Cosmic Interstate. The new Robo-Robotnik had a secret weapon. The monster had a Mechanizer ray. It had Mechanized CySally in ten seconds. *** The evil Sonic frowned. "That big stupid robot let the cyborg get away. Now that Sonic is going to go get help. I was hoping this wouldn't happen. Tails glanced at the monitor that showed the Mecha-Warrior's progress. "I guess you'd better go help it, huh?" he asked. Sonic shook his head. "I'll go if it needs it, but I want to see just how good my Mechanizer is." Sonic grinned. "If I'm lucky, I can spare myself the trouble." *** "What's up, Sally?" asked Sonic, as he dashed through the door. "Rotor's been attempting to locate the Robotnik's Mechanizer," said Sally. "I think we found it. "It's about time!" said Sonic impatiently. "Where is it?" Sally showed him a picture of Robotnik's control center. "Rotor believes that the Mechanizer has take the place of this old roboticizer. Robotnik probably doesn't realize that we've discovered it, so I don't want to do your usual smash-and-bash job." "And what's wrong with a smash-and-bash job?" asked Sonic. "We need to know if there are other Mechanizers. Rotor and I are going to come with you to access the Mechanizer and scan it to detect whether and/or where other Mechanizers are located," said Nicole quietly. Sonic nodded. "Okay, who else is going?" he asked. "Just us," said Rotor. "Sally messed up her leg when he battled the Mecha-Warriors yesterday, and Bunnie is on look-out patrol." Sonic nodded. "Okay. Let's juice!" Sonic grabbed Rotor, who grabbed onto Nicole, and the three of them dashed off for Robotropolis. *** CySonic gasped as the Mechanizer ray nearly caught him. He had been running at top speed, and the stupid egg-bellied machine had kept right up with him the whole time! CySonic panted. He had to think of a plan, and he had to do it now! Then, he had an idea. If he could shake the Mecha-Warrior behind him, just for a second, he might be able to... The cyborg smiled. He had a great idea. *** "We're in!" Sonic said, grinning. They walked into the command center. "Hey, where's Robotnik?" asked Rotor. "And Snively? They never leave the command center unguarded!" "Who says it's unguarded?" rumbled a voice. "Oh, no," groaned Sonic. "Mecha-Volcano is here to make sure no meddling Freedom Fighters get in the way!" laughed Mecha-Typhoon. "And I'm here to help him!" The two Mecha-Warriors barreled forward. Sonic shoved Rotor and Nicole out of the way, then dodged the fire and wind-blown water blasts from the two robots. "I kicked your butts last time," said Sonic, as the two robots slammed into each other and hit the floor. "What makes you think you can beat me now?" "Me," came a voice. "I'm here to stop you, hedgehog!" Sonic shook his head. "You robots never learn, do you?" Rotor, meanwhile, took this distraction to his advantage, and snuck off with Nicole to get some information on the Mechanizer. "This machine states that there are three hundred and fifty-six different Mechanizers," said Nicole. Rotor's jaw dropped. "We'll never be able to get rid of that many!" he groaned. Sonic, meanwhile, leapt, twisted, bounced and ducked to escape the wrath of the Mecha-Warriors. And worse still, he couldn't even look at his latest enemy! "Mecha-Mindbender will show you the meaning of pain!" snarled the new robot. "I will control your mind, and you will destroy the Freedom Fighters! You cannot resist me!" Rotor turned, glanced at the hedgehog and yelled, "Let's move! We're done here!" Sonic blasted away, dragging Rotor with him. Robotnik stepped out from behind the large piece of machinery where he had been hiding. "Mission accomplished?" he asked. Mecha-Mindbender nodded and grinned. "They took the bait. They're now convinced Robotropolis is filled with Mechanizers. I also included a bunch of lies, so they'll think their mission is impossible. But I added a little present. I can tell you where they're going to show up next." "Good!" laughed Robotnik. "Soon, I will initiate phase three!" Sonic sighed Rotor and Nicole told him what happened. "There's no way we can destroy that many Mechanizers!" said Sonic dejectedly. "What do we do?" "I don't know," said Rotor. "I have an idea," said Nicole. "The Mecha-Warriors operate under one major computer bank. Apparently this computer is very delicate; if you were to say something at the exact right pitch, it would cause the computer to disintegrate." "Where is this base?" asked Rotor. *** Sonic the Cyborg Hedgehog put on a mask, covering his robotic head. Then, he grabbed a pair of glasses, a jacket, and some pants and boots. Then, he stepped in front of the roboticized Robotnik. Momentarily confused, the Mecha-Warrior stopped. Sonic took this opportunity to slam into the monster, and knocked it off the narrow bridge they were on. CySonic dashed away to find Sonic. *** Nack the Weasel frowned as he watched Robotnik's new Mecha-Warriors. Nack did not like how things were going. He got paid by Robotnik; true, but money didn't do him any good if he was a robot. Nack had been hired to steal the Floating Island's Chaos Emerald, but that had not been his only job. He was to find Knuckles the Echidna and capture him, too. However, that meddling hedgehog had gotten in the way and ruined everything. But now, as Nack stared at the Mechanizer, he wasn't so sure he was on the right side. "Maybe I should help the Freedom Fighters on this," he muttered. "Maybe you shouldn't!" snarled a voice. Nack turned, glancing at his opponent. Mecha-Mindbender instantly hypnotized the weasel. "Robotnik is my master," said Nack. Robotnik grinned as he got out of his chair. "Oh, good! An added bonus!" Nack was dragged towards the Mechanizer. *** CySonic slammed into Sonic and grunted. "Hey!" yelled Sonic, as he fell to the ground. "Oof!" responded CySonic. Sonic took one look at the hedgehog before him, and swung. The blow sent CySonic reeling. and the mask flew off. CySonic cursed himself. He should have remembered to take off the mask! "It's me, Sonic!" said the cyborg hedgehog. "Oops," said Sonic. "Sonic, we've got problems! There's some new roboticized version of Robotnik, calling himself--" CySonic screamed as he was thrown against a tree and knocked out cold. Sonic turned quickly. "I'd rather introduce myself, thank you!" came a voice. Rotor's eyes bulged. "Rotor!" Sonic yelled. "Get back to Knothole, now!" Rotor dashed away. Sonic knew that he wouldn't last long enough for the Freedom Fighters to help him this time. He was too far away. "I am Mecha-Nack!" cackled the new Mecha-Warrior. "And you will die!" Sonic shook his head in disbelief. Another voice came, this one much deeper. A dark shadow lifted Mecha-Nack and tossed him aside. "A petty joke," rumbled the huge new monster. "He took out CySonic, but I am going to take out you, hedgehog!" "Who are you?" Sonic asked. "I am Mecha-Nik," said the Mecha-Warrior, stepping out of the shadows. The frightening visage of the horrible creature was revealed, and Sonic gasped in shock. "Yes, I was Robotnik, but not anymore! I am now a Mecha-Warrior, and you will die!" To Be Concluded....
